Into the home stretch - Righto, we have had 22 out of the 28 games played in the league stage, and all four playoff places are still up for grabs. Next up, there is a flurry of double-headers scheduled to be played over the course of the next three days in Chennai. On Thursday, August 20, we will first see Madurai Panthers take on reigning champions, the Tiruppur Tamizhans, followed by a match between Nellai Royal Kings and the Salem Spartans. Action will begin at 10 am GMT (3.30 pm IST), but you can join us sooner for the build-up as well. Cheers!
PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Rajkumar K has been handed the accolade for his stellar knock of 71 off just 42 balls.
The Presentation ceremony...
Proving the worth of wickets - As long as you have wickets in hand, you have a shot as a chasing team and for about half of the chase, Dindigul Dragons managed to do just that. They lost just one wicket early and then Shivam Singh and Baba Indrajith frustrated the opposition bowlers whilst keeping the scoring rate up. Things changed dramatically when Antony Dhas sent both of them back in the same over. Dhas went on to pick another wicket, after which K Easwaran came in and showed his slower-ball mastery, ending with a four-fer. Athisayaraj Davidson also nailed his yorkers at the death, and only RK Jayant could muster up some runs for Dindigul in the latter stages.
A job well done - That is a fine comeback with the ball from Trichy Grand Cholas, as all of their pacers contributed and put on a real display of death bowling. Trichy now break away from that pack of teams on 6 points and zoom to second place, leaving Dindigul Dragons on the verge of being knocked out of the tournament with just 4 points to their name and only one game to play.
Just a single to end, and Trichy Grand Cholas win by 28 runs (DLS). Antony Dhas goes fuller and attacks the stumps, P Bhuvaneswaran hangs deep and looks to swing it leg side but gets a big inside edge onto the pads. The ball rolls away to backward point and they get a single, but there's an appeal for LBW as well. The on-field umpire says no but Suresh Kumar takes the review. Replays and UltraEdge both confirm the inside edge and it stays Not Out.
FOUR! Streaky. Short ball around off, P Bhuvaneswaran reaches out and gives a go at the pull but gets a top edge that sails down to deep third for a boundary.
1 run, the on drive comes out now. The batter gets a run.
Cheeky attempt, but it doesn't come off. Full and angling down leg, RK Jayant gets low and inside the line, looking for the scoop but ends up edging the ball back onto his bod.
No run. Swing and a miss! The batter swings hard at that one but does not connect.
That should do it. Antony Dhas bowls the perfect yorker, pitching it right at the base of the middle stump. RK Jayant just about manages to jam the bat down in time and the target is now out of Dindigul's reach (given there are no extras bowled).
Sensational from Athisayaraj Davidson, and he's given no breathing room to the batters. Another one at the toes, on leg stump. Jayant jams it down to long on for a single. Jayant needs to hit 6 sixes in the last over to win the match for his side.
No run, that is slogged away, but not for any run.
1 run, the batter goes back in the crease and flicks it away through square leg for a single.
And again! Almost an action replay of the last delivery in terms of line and length. Athisayaraj Davidson nails the yorker at the toes. RK Jayant fails to lay a bat on it and it deflects off his boot to short third. Another leg bye. Suresh Kumar again ponders about the review, but the bowler says no.
A review taken more in hope, but it was always going to be Not Out. That's unnecessary from Suresh Kumar. Perfect yorker, right at the toes. P Bhuvaneswaran stands outside the line of leg stump, tries to flick it away but misses and the ball goes off the back leg to short third for a leg bye. There is an appeal for LBW, which is turned down, but it is reviewed. Nothing on UltraEdge and Ball Tracking shows the ball to be pitching well outside the line of leg stump.
A low full toss on the pads, Jayant stays low and swings it away to deep square leg for a single.
No run, that is flicked away but straight to the fielder.
1 run, that is punched off the back foot for a single.
No hat-trick! Slower one around leg, tickled down to fine leg for a single by Bhuvaneswaran.
P Bhuvaneswaran walks out to bat now and he will face the hat-trick ball.
OUT! TIMBER! K Easwaran is on fire as he nails another slower ball and picks up a four-fer. Back-of-the-hand delivery, on a hard length and on off and middle. Nirankar Sharma sets up for the pull, waits a bit before swinging, but is still very early. The ball takes the under-edge and goes back onto the stumps. Easwaran is now on a hat-trick.
Nirankar Sharma is the new batter in.
OUT! CAUGHT! Another one bites the dust and K Easwaran has his third victim. Easwaran hits a good length, taking pace off the ball and bowls it at the stumps. Varun Chakaravarthy stays leg side of the ball and goes after it, but launches it high over mid on. The fielder at long on comes in a few steps and Jagatheesan Kousik makes no mistake.
1 run, the on drive comes out now. The batter gets a run.
Close call, but that's clearly bounced onto the boot. Full and straight. Chakaravarthy looks to jam it out but gets an inner edge onto the boot and the ball lobs back to the bowler. Athisayaraj Davidson pouches it and appeals for a catch. The third umpire is called in to check for a bump-ball and replays confirm that the ball bounced before hitting the boot. Not Out.
1 run, that is punched off the front foot for a single.
Full ball around leg, Chakaravarthy fails to flick it away. The ball hits the front pad and rolls past the strip on the off side. They get a leg bye.
No run, this is driven towards mid on.
That's a poor ball, well down leg and the keeper fumbles it as well, allowing the batters to get a run. It is called a wide. However, it is reviewed, not quite sure why. But hang on, there's a spike on UltraEdge, just a faint one and that's enough to overturn the wide call. It will be a single and the keeper Suresh Kumar, who took the review, saves a run and an extra ball as well.
