Back to back boundaries to finish the innings. Sri Lanka don't seem happy with the fielder who has decided to not stand on the edge of the boundary. In the end England finish on 278-9 which seems to be about par on this wicket. They would have been hoping for a lot more until Lasith Malinga got the ball in his hand and caused carnage at the end, picking off the middle-order with ease. His 5-44 prevented the visitors from reaching 300 as with Eoin Morgan at the crease they were picking off the boundaries with regularity. This should be a good chase and hopefully the weather doesn't prevent a full game.

Eventually the umpires have decided the rain has become too heavy for the players to carry on. It has become very dark and the groundstaff are running all over trying to get the pitch fully covered. This could be it for the day with England ahead of DLS.
And that is that. England win by 31 runs with the game decided off the field. With the start the visitors got with the ball it was always going to be an uphill task for Sri Lanka to reach the DLS target. Olly Stone (1-23) and Chris Woakes (3-26) were superb, a small comeback by Dhananjaya de Silva and Thisara Perera added some fun for the crowd but it wasn't enough. It means that England lead the series 1-0 and both teams now go to Kandy for the third and fourth before Colombo for the fifth.
