Manchester's total dominance with the ball - Once the seventh-wicket stand was broken, the London tail crumbled swiftly, wrapping up the innings for a meager total of 80 runs. It was a flawless tactical performance from the Manchester Super Giants Women, with every single bowler executing their plans perfectly to dismantle the opposition. Ryana Macdonald-Gay spearheaded the attack as the pick of the bowlers with a brilliant four-wicket haul, while the rest of the unit picked up one wicket each to put Manchester firmly in control. Kapp's resilience offered brief respite - A semblance of calmness returned to the Spirit camp thanks to two gritty, consecutive 20-run partnerships. Nadine de Klerk first stabilized the innings alongside Charis Pavely, and then combined with skipper Charlie Dean for the seventh wicket. While Kapp, de Klerk, Pavely, and Dean all managed to get starts, disaster struck just as they looked to accelerate. Every time momentum started to shift, Manchester struck back instantly, sending the set batters packing and completely halting London's progress.
Batting collapse leaves London reeling - The London Spirit Women endured a disastrous start to their campaign after being put in to bat first and getting bowled out for a mere 80 as the Manchester Super Giants' bowling attack tore through their batting unit. The hosts lost wickets in a rapid cluster, collapsing to a dismal 28 for 5 in the face of relentless pressure. None of the top-order batters could weather the initial storm, leaving the dug-out stunned and the lower order with an immense rebuilding task under high pressure.
OUT! EDGED AND GONE! That's it. Manchester Super Giants Women have bowled out London Spirit Women for just 80 runs. Ryana Macdonald-Gay serves the ball on a fuller length and gets it to shape away from the off stump line. Katie George stays leg side of the ball to drive but gets a feather edge through to the keeper. Richa Ghosh makes no mistake and Macdonald-Gay has a four-fer to her name.

WIDE! Richa Ghosh appeals excitedly for the caught behind, but the umpire is having none of it, and a wide is called. Ghosh does seem confident and Meg Lanning takes the review. Coming to the delivery, this is floated around leg, turning down the leg side. Katie George sits down to sweep but misses and Ghosh pouches it sharply to her left. The third umpire checks with UltraEdge and finds that the ball has missed the bat and gone just underneath the gloves as well. Not Out.

OUT! TIMBER! 'You miss, I hit.' Ryana Macdonald-Gay bowls it seam-up and pitches the ball fuller on off and middle, getting the ball to nip back in a bit. Nadine De Klerk stays back, clears the front leg to swing it leg side, but is beaten all ends up and hears the death rattle behind her. Ryana now has 3 wickets to her name.

OUT! CHARLIE DEAN IS RUN OUT! That's a sharp recovery from Meg Lanning. Maitlan Brown bowls it back of a length and around off. Nadine De Klerk rocks back and punches it out to the left of cover. Lanning slides across and the ball deflects off her knee. The batters decide to scamper through for the single but Lanning is quick to throw it back to the keeper. Richa Ghosh takes it in front of the stumps and the momentum helps her dilosge the ball quickly. Dean tries to dive in but is well short.
DROPPED! That should have been taken. Short ball into the bodyline. Nadine De Klerk gets cramped for room and just hoists it high towards deep square leg. Kathryn Bryce comes in from the deep but ends up spilling the catch. Two taken.
A slower bumper around off, Dean gets across and on top of the bounce, pulling it down to deep square leg for one more.
Full and on off, Nadine De Klerk hangs deep and jams it towards deep mid-wicket. The call is for two but Mady Villiers attacks the ball well and keeps it down to a single.
Time to switch the focus to the Men - A disappointing start for London Spirit Women in front of the Lord's crowd, but it is always better to get such a performance out of the way early in the season, rather than at a crucial juncture. However, the players will have to buck up and gear up for their next game quickly. Manchester Super Giants Women, on the other hand, will be delighted to start the season in that fashion and will look to build on this win. Right then, let's now shift our focus to the second game of the day, which will be played between the Mens from the two sides. Bowlers set things up nicely - The foundation was laid down early by Meg Lanning and her side. After electing to bowl first, Grace Ballinger gave them a perfect start with a wicket in the very first set. The likes of Maitlan Brown and Ryana Macdonald-Gay followed her up with wickets of their own but it really was Ryana who stood out. Sophie Ecclestone was at her best as usual and Ryana's four-fer, coupled with a few run-outs, turned out to be the nail in the coffin for London Spirit Women. With the bat, Marizanne Kapp seemed like the only one who got a decent gauge of the track, and a couple of batters fought hard in the middle order, but it wasn't enough to take the Spirit to anywhere near the three-figure mark.
Player of the Match - Ryana Macdonald-Gay is given the accolade for her match-winning figures of 17/4. Macdonald-Gay expresses immense satisfaction with her side's collective bowling display, noting that the opening bowlers set the tone beautifully for the rest of the attack. Ryana feels in excellent rhythm following a thorough pre-tournament preparation period and credits her personal success to sticking to the basics and executing the team's clear pre-game plans perfectly. Stressing on how much she loves the change in scenery, Ryana praises the fantastic team environment and looks forward to taking the field for their upcoming home games at Old Trafford.
Not enough on the board - The Spirit Women were always going to be up against it with the ball, having mustered up just 80 runs with the bat. Marizanne Kapp bowled her heart out early on and did manage to pick up two wickets in two balls late in her spell. However, the opposition had already broke the back of the chase by then and the bowlers had no answers.
Starts all around - With only 81 needed for the win, captain Meg Lanning and Smriti Mandhana managed to negate the Powerplay and put on 33 runs for the first wicket. They did lose a couple of quick wickets and then Lanning fell too, but the likes of Paige Scholfield and Richa Ghosh finished things off in a canter when the target was in sight. Scholfield even hit a six to seal the deal.
Visitors stroll to the win - Manchester Super Giants Women have made light work of the run chase as expected and even though it wasn't quite a fluid batting display, it was more than enough. London Spirit Women only managed to prolong the inevitable and bowled reasonably well, but it was never going to be enough.
