Welcome back for the second essay. The two umpires and players have made their way out to the middle. The veteran left-arm spinner, Rahil Shah has been brought in as the Impact Sub by SKM Salem Spartans. Sunny Sandhu has been subbed out. It will be RS Mokit Hariharan and Narayan Jagadeesan to open the innings for Chepauk Super Gillies. M Uday Kumar will start with the new ball. Let's go...
... THE RUN CHASE ...
One over changed everything - The Powerplay was even-stevens before the Super Gillies started to chip away at the wickets through the middle phase. It was all looking rosy for Chepauk until the 15th over from Ashwanth Valthapa went for 21, and the momentum swung dramatically from there. Salem have all the momentum with them and will look to carry that into their bowling effort as they set out in search of their first win of the season. Chepauk will need a good Powerplay to shake off what happened with the ball. Stay tuned as the chase is coming up shortly.
Who would have seen this coming? From 84/6, when it looked like SKM Salem Spartans might not even bat out their 20 overs, they have somehow finished on 182. It has been a wonderful recovery, largely driven by the heroics of S Harish Kumar, while Eshwar M also played his part in turning the innings around. Chepauk Super Gillies have been left shell-shocked, wondering what has hit them.
26 runs off the over. SKM Salem Spartans finish on 182/7. Angled in at the hips, on a back of a length, another slower one. Harish has a swipe across the line but misses and gets hit on the body. A leg bye is taken as the ball goes away on the leg side.
Another slower ball, on middle. S Harish Kumar mishits the pull in front of deep mid-wicket but refuses the single.
DRAMA! Taken at deep square leg but M Vignesh has overstepped. Would you believe it? Pace off and into the wicket, on middle. Harish is early into the pull and spoons it to deep square leg. Harish had started to walk off before the siren went off. Free Hit coming up.
SIX! Well, well, four from four. Are we in for something special? M Vignesh switches his angle of attack as he comes from around the wicket. Tries to push it across the right-hander but does not manage to get it wide enough. Vignesh is able to reach for it and he blasts it over long off for half a dozen.
SIX! Make that a hat-trick of sixes. S Harish Kumar brings up his FIFT Y in 31 balls. This has been ball-striking of the highest order. Vignesh looks for the yorker but fails to get it full enough, outside off. Kumar is allowed to get under the ball and he thumps it over wide long off for a biggie.
SIX MORE! S Harish Kumar is putting on an exhibition here. On a hard length at 139 kph, on off and middle. Harish hangs back and swings at it with a horizontal bat. The ball gets big on him and he is also rushed but manages to slam it over extra cover for another maximum.
SIX! Stand and deliver. M Vignesh bowls the leg-cutter but ends up being a bit too full, in line with the off stump. Harish clears the front leg and pumps it over long off. Kumar is limping a little, but that does not seem to be stopping him from going for the big hits.
S Harish Kumar is experiencing discomfort in his right ankle and is receiving attention from the physio. Harish puts his pads back on and he is ready to resume.
Prem goes searching for the yorker but dishes out a low full toss again, on off. S Harish Kumar swings a bit too hard and loses his shape. Mishits it to deep mid-wicket but keeps the strike with a single.

Rapped on the pads! Turned down by the umpire. Looked like going down leg but Narayan Jagadeesan once again takes a chance. Slanting into the right-hander, on a good length. Yazh plays all around it and gets hit on the pads. A leg bye is taken as the ball goes away towards point. No bat involved but the Ball Tracking has the ball going past the leg pole. The on-field call is upheld.

OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Chepauk Super Gillies get the review right. A well-executed yorker by Prem, outside off. Eshwar M clears the front leg and swings at it, but the ball sneaks just past the bat before going behind, where Narayan Jagadeesan takes the catch to his left. A stifled appeal for caught behind. Seemed like a bump ball but Narayan Jagadeesan wants to have a look. The bat did hit the turf but the ball grazed the inside edge before going towards the keeper and that point, the bat was not in contact with the ground, confirmed by the UltraEdge. So the on-field call is overturned.
No damage done. Low full toss, on middle, S Harish Kumar smacks it to long on for one.
No Ball. Nails the yorker at the toes and gets it to tail back in late. S Harish Kumar hurriedly gets his bat down and gets a bit of a bat on it before the ball pings him on the back leg. Harish was keen for a single before being sent back. Oh, the siren has gone off. Prem Kumar has overstepped. Free Hit coming up.

SIX! Straight as an arrow. Cross-seam ball, bowled by going wide on the crease, in the slot, on off. S Harish Kumar just puts his head down and holds his shape as he launches it towards the sight screen.
Pace off, on a length, on off. Harish carves it off the outer half and it lands between extra cover and long off. Single taken. 13 runs off the over.
FOUR! Streaky boundary, and with that, the 50-run stand comes up. At pace, full and on middle. S Harish Kumar throws his hands at the ball. Gets an inside edge and it races past the short fine leg fielder.
Mistimed but Eshwar M gets away with it. Cross-seam ball, on a nagging length, on middle. Eshwar swings with all his might, but it lands safely down the ground. Three fielders converged - long off, long on and extra cover but it dropped right between them.
One down, one to go - That's all from the first game of the day, which was a topsy-turvy affair, but Chepauk Super Gillies had the upper hand for most of the game and eventually prevailed quite comfortably. PLAYER OF THE MATCH - For the second game in a row, the Chepauk skipper Narayan Jagadeesan takes home the award. His knock of 78 off 39 balls paved the way for a comfortable win for the Super Gillies. On the run-out involving Ram Arvindh R, Jagadeesan feels the argument that followed was simply a case of the heat of the moment and part and parcel of the game. He stresses that the result matters less than the process, which is what ultimately takes a team deeper in a T20 competition. Opines that 180 was a par score on this wicket and says that the team was clear about their plans heading into the chase.
Could not back it up with the ball - The first innings reflected the true nature of T20 cricket, where an over or two can be all it takes to turn the tide, and so it proved here. Chepauk had Salem under heaps of pressure at 84/6, but S Harish Kumar and Eshwar M got together to spark a remarkable recovery. Harish brought up his fifty along the way, as the Spartans piled on 90 runs in the last 6 overs. Salem had all the momentum heading into the second innings, but they lacked the bite with the ball and looked one-dimensional. They have slumped to their fourth straight defeat, with four more games left to turn their season around.
Super Gillies make light work of the chase - Coming into the second essay, Chepauk had work to do after letting Salem off the hook, but boy, did they respond. Led by a proper captain's knock from Narayan Jagadeesan, the Super Gillies never really looked like they would not chase down this total. Swapnil Singh also played his part as Chepauk secured a second straight win after losing their first two encounters.
SIX! That's it. Dinesh Raj S walks out and hits the winning runs. Chepauk Super Gillies win by 5 wickets to secure a second straight win. Pace on, full in length, around the off stump. Dinesh hangs deep in the crease and, with a clean swing of the arms, he blasts it over the long off fence for a biggie.

OUT! TAKEN! A six would have sealed the win and brought up Swapnil Singh's half-century as well but he falls short of clearing the fence. Another slower ball, on a good length, on off. Swapnil has a swing at it, looking to go down the ground. Rajendran Vivek times the jump to perfection at long on and takes a good catch over his head.

SIX! Not from the middle, but it gets the job done for Swapnil Singh. Uday rolls his fingers over the ball and lands it on a length, outside off. Swapnil hangs low and uses his reach to good effect. He has a swipe across the line and although this comes off the bottom half of the bat, he gets enough distance to clear the deep mid-wicket fence.

SIX! Banged away. At pace this time, searching for the yorker, on off but Poiyamozhi misses his mark. It is in the slot and Swapnil collapses his back knee and lofts it over long off for another maximum. Just 10 more needed now for Chepauk Super Gillies.
SIX! Down the track and away it goes. Off-cutter dished out by Poiyamozhi, on a good length, on off and middle. It spins back a touch and Swapnil charges down the track before clubbing it over wide long on for a flat six.
No run, that is punched off the back foot but straight to the fielder.

FOUR! Easy pickings. Too short and too straight with fine leg up inside the circle. M. Mohana Prasath swivels in the crease and pulls it over the short fine leg fielder. It nearly goes the distance.
FOUR! Hit hard and wide enough. From around the wicket, dropped short by Rahil, on middle and leg. Swapnil Singh goes deep in the crease and powers it down the ground, beating the long on fielder to his left. 29 needed off 30.
A confident shout for LBW, but turned down. That seemed to be going down leg, but Abishiek Selvakumar has a word with the bowler and takes the review. Shah spots Prasath move across his stumps, and he fires it in very full, at the toes. Mohana hurriedly gets his bat down but misses and gets hit low on the front pad.
